Nettspend makes the kind of rap music that sounds like your speakers are about to give up, and that's entirely the point. The Richmond, Virginia teenager, born Gunner Shepardson, blew up in late 2023 when a snippet of "Drankdrankdrank" went viral on Twitter, and his song "Shine N Peace" ended up on best of 2023 lists at both The Fader and The New York Times. His style pulls from trap and jerk, built around distorted 808s, loose piano riffs, and pitched up layered vocals. Most of his songs clock in under two minutes, which somehow makes them hit harder. His debut mixtape Bad Ass F*cking Kid dropped in December 2024, with a music video for "F*ck Swag" directed by Cole Bennett and a tour that had PinkPantheress showing up at his Los Angeles date. He has since released his debut studio album Early Life Crisis and a SoundCloud compilation called Him. The New York Times described his sound as "post post rage", and honestly that tracks.
