Best known for scoring two Harry Potter films, Nicholas Hooper is a British composer and guitarist whose work spans blockbuster cinema, BBC documentaries, and acclaimed TV drama. His collaboration with director David Yates on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince brought him his widest audience, earning him a Grammy nomination for the latter. Before that, he had already won a BAFTA and an Ivor Novello Award for The Young Visiters and another BAFTA for Prime Suspect: The Final Act. Hooper is just as active as a performing guitarist. His 2015 solo album 6 Strings draws on Irish folk music and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. He has also released work with the duo Henderson:Hooper and performs regularly with Gordon Giltrap MBE and The Boot Band. Recent uploads to his YouTube channel suggest he has kept up a steady output of new music, with tracks appearing as recently as 2025.
