About
Nico Dijkshoorn is one of those rare people who moves comfortably between poetry, prose, columns and music, and somehow makes it all feel like the same thing. The Amsterdam native built a following through sharp, often absurdist writing, and became a familiar face on Dutch television thanks to a long run on the talk show De Wereld Draait Door, where he would write and perform topical poems on the spot. His own solo show Vuig mixed spoken word with music, and while critics had mixed feelings about his guitar work, they had nothing but praise for his ability to make the ordinary feel worth examining. He cites poet C. Buddingh and writer Johnny van Doorn as key influences, both known for finding meaning in the everyday.
