About
Also known as: María Rosa García García
Niña Pastori, born María Rosa García García in San Fernando, Cádiz, has been one of Spain's most compelling flamenco voices since her debut in the mid 1990s. Mentored early on by the legendary Camarón de la Isla, she built her reputation on a purist flamenco foundation before weaving in pop elements without losing her roots. Her first album, Entre dos puertos, produced alongside Alejandro Sanz and Paco Ortega, shifted over 150,000 copies and the single Tú me camelas became a genuine Spanish summer hit. She has since sold two million records across ten albums and earned four Latin Grammys, including three for best flamenco album. Her range goes well beyond the studio. She sang Schubert's Ave Maria for three million people during Pope John Paul II's visit to Madrid, and her 2014 collaborative album Raíz, recorded with Lila Downs and Soledad, won the Latin Grammy for Best Folk Album and landed a nomination for Album of the Year. The trio even joined Santana on a track for his album Corazón. Her 2018 record Bajo tus alas and the Medalla de Andalucía that same year underline just how deeply rooted she is in Spanish musical life.
