About

Nina Rompa is a Amsterdam based singer and composer whose music weaves together jazz, classical influences and Dutch language poetry into something that feels genuinely its own. Her album Hoog, recorded at the Orgelpark in Amsterdam with her band and the three viola players of 3VIOLAS, moves fluidly between modern jazz, light chamber music and contemporary pop. The ensemble also includes clarinettist Mo van der Does, guitarist Gijs Idema and double bassist William Barrett, an unconventional line up that gives her voice plenty of room to breathe. Hoog circles around the idea of infinite space and longing for something distant. Rompa has spoken about her fascination with vintage space exploration footage, including the old Cosmos series by Carl Sagan, as a source of inspiration for tracks like Apollo, Maanman and IJsreus. Nature plays an equally important role: rippling water, wind through trees and shimmering heat on the horizon all feed into her quietly transportive sound. The album is released on Zennez Records.
