About
Nomo is a nine piece band out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and their sound is genuinely hard to pin down in the best possible way. Fronted by Elliot Bergman, who plays saxophone, percussion, electric mbira, and something called an electric sawblade gamelan, the group blends funk, Afrobeat, jazz, and whatever else fits into what Bergman himself calls "a big melting pot of ideas and influences." They recorded several albums for Ubiquity Records, including Nu Tones, Ghost Rock, and Invisible Cities, building a catalogue that rewards repeated listening. The band also has a close creative connection with His Name Is Alive frontman Warn Defever, who recorded them, and several Nomo members appear on His Name Is Alive albums including Detrola and Sweet Earth Flower. It is a deep, interconnected world of adventurous music.
