Normani burst out of Fifth Harmony, one of the best selling girl groups of all time, and quickly proved she had the solo chops to match. Her 2018 duet with Khalid, "Love Lies", crept into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 over 28 weeks and ended up on Barack Obama's year end favourites list. From there she kept stacking hits: "Dancing with a Stranger" with Sam Smith went top ten in 22 countries and scored a Brit Awards Song of the Year nomination, while "Waves" featuring 6lack won a MTV Video Music Award for Best R&B Video. Her solo single "Motivation" landed to serious critical acclaim, and she showed up in Cardi B's "WAP" video for good measure. All of that built toward her debut studio album Dopamine, released in 2024 and led by the top 20 single "Wild Side" featuring Cardi B. She also collaborated with Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Thee Stallion on the Charlie's Angels and Birds of Prey soundtracks, and made her feature film debut in Freaky Tales.
