About
Nose Shop describe their own sound as 'Egg pop', and the label fits: every signal runs direct, through DI connections, with no effects chain softening the edges. The setup is built around SPD pads, an eight string bass and a baritone guitar, a combination that lays every frequency bare without reverb or any other cushioning. The result is bone dry, closer to raw voltage and cable than to anything atmospheric. Lyrically the band wanders into what you might call discount philosophy, free will, doubt, metaphysics and the quiet absurdity of being alive, delivered with the deadpan tone of a seminar held in a storage unit. They have been called the natural enemy of shoegaze, which tells you a lot about where they sit. Existentialism you can nod your head to.
