About
Out of the Asbury Park punk scene that kicked back into life in the mid 2000s, The Obvious carved out a reputation as one of its most distinctive acts. Fronted by Angie Sugrim, whose sociopolitical lyrics give the band a sharp, purposeful edge, their sound draws comparisons to early Nirvana, Hole, and the Afghan Whigs. Their debut EP Bringing Wreck, produced by the Bouncing Souls' Pete Steinkopf, landed in 2010 to solid critical praise, and a second EP followed in 2012. The band won Top Indie Rock Band at the Asbury Music Awards twice, opened for Courtney Love and the Buzzcocks at the Stone Pony, and played South by Southwest. Their first full LP, Duress, compiled and remastered the best of those early EPs alongside new material, and came out on Altercation Records.
