Oculus

About

Oculus is the collaborative project of two musicians who crossed paths in Utrecht: Ies Muller and Hamid Reza Behzadian. Their backgrounds couldn't be further apart on the map. Hamid draws from Persian classical traditions, Indian classical music and Mississippi delta blues, playing Indian slide guitar, resonator guitar and harmonica. Ies brings Irish and Breton traditional music to the table on wooden flutes. Years of playing together, listening and exchanging ideas shaped what the duo does: weave those distinct traditions into something that feels like a single coherent journey from east to west. On stage they are joined by tabla player Suresh Sardjoe, whose rhythmic grounding adds another layer to the already rich mix. Their debut album, also called Oculus, captures that same sense of travel and wide open sonic horizons.
