Kim Larsen's neofolk project :Of the Wand & the Moon: grew out of his deep love for the genre, with Death in June and Current 93 cited as the records that shaped him most. The Danish act has been releasing music since 1999, when the debut Nighttime Nightrhymes appeared, and the catalog has steadily grown into one of the more respected bodies of work in neofolk. Thematically, Larsen draws on runes, Norse mythology, Aleister Crowley, and esoterica, once summing up his sound as "loner folk". The fourth album, The Lone Descent from 2011, is widely regarded as a high point of the genre, praised for its richer production and contemporary feel. A decade on, Your Love Can't Hold This Wreath of Sorrow pushed further into post punk and electronica territory, and the 2023 EP Behold the Trees stripped things back to a minimalist ambient approach with spoken word vocals.
