Old Man's Child is the brainchild of Oslo guitarist and vocalist Galder, who has been the sole constant force behind the project since founding it in 1993. Rooted in melodic black metal, the band built a strong reputation through a run of albums on Century Media in the late 1990s, starting with Born of the Flickering and followed by The Pagan Prosperity and Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion. When Galder joined Dimmu Borgir in 2000, Old Man's Child kept moving, releasing three more albums through 2005 before going quiet for the better part of a decade. After years of silence, Galder reactivated the project in late 2019, posting footage of himself working on new material for the first time in over ten years. He parted ways with Dimmu Borgir in 2024 to focus fully on Old Man's Child, and original drummer Tjodalv, who had been with the band back in the early days, came back on board for the next chapter.
