One Be Lo built his reputation as one half of Binary Star, the Pontiac duo whose debut Waterworld became an underground classic, selling out its initial 1,000 copies and drawing praise for its sharp, conscious lyricism. He later changed his stage name from OneManArmy after signing with Fat Beats Records, and the label ended up picking up his full album S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. instead of just a single, a testament to how strong that record was. It sold around 12,000 copies in his first few weeks on tour alone. His solo catalog keeps expanding, with each project built around an elaborate acronym title and a distinct concept. B.A.B.Y. brought in collaborators like Freeway, Phonte, Royce da 5'9" and Devin The Dude, while L.A.B.O.R. drew metaphorical inspiration from animals and occupations. Throughout it all, he has stayed committed to what he calls being "the MC's MC", known for clear delivery and dense, intelligent rhymes rooted in his alternative hip hop sensibility.
