About
Orkest Intermezzo is a symphony orchestra from the Rotterdam region that has been going for more than 45 years. It started in 1981 and grew from a modest ensemble into a full symphonic outfit under its first conductor, Coen van der Heide, who led it until 2011. Since 2012 Frank de Groot has been on the podium. The orchestra has around 60 players, a mix of highly skilled amateurs and professional musicians. Its repertoire runs to the big Russian showpieces, with Glazunov's violin concerto and Rimsky Korsakov's Scheherazade among the works it has programmed.
