About
Os Quatro e Meia started out as a bunch of university students from Coimbra who got together for a fundraiser show in 2013 and never really stopped. The name translates roughly to "The Four and A Half", though the group has since grown to six members, each of whom holds down a separate career alongside the music. There are three doctors, a computer engineer, a civil engineer and a music teacher in the lineup, playing violin, mandolin, accordion, double bass, guitar and percussion between them. By 2017 the band had broken through to a national audience in Portugal, and their albums landed at number one that year and again in 2020. In 2023 they took home a Golden Globe for Best Song of the Year, and that same year performed live at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra, sharing the stage with Bárbara Tinoco.
