About
Otto Club is a live electronic act built around five KORG MS 20 synthesizers and a drummer. Where most electronic music gets made on a laptop, they went the other way and play everything live. Each synth can only play one note at a time, so the music is stitched together from five separate voices that add up to one polyphonic instrument. Vocals sit at the heart of it too, with songs written in German and English that tell stories. The sound is almost entirely analog, warm and a bit restless, and more organic than you'd expect from a synth lineup. You can hear Air and Yellow Magic Orchestra in there, while the emotional pull feels closer to Big Thief than to typical electronic music. Their live shows are developed as audiovisual productions together with visual artist Paolo Hamann, mixing music, scenography and light into one piece.
