Oversize set out wanting to sound like Sunny Day Real Estate meets Smashing Pumpkins, and honestly that tells you a lot about what they're going for. The Salisbury formed, Bristol based five piece spent their early years writing emo demos before pivoting hard into grungegaze, a corner of the shoegaze revival where fuzz pedals, chorus drenched guitars and melancholic atmospheres do most of the heavy lifting. Their 2022 EP Into The Ceiling on Church Road Records put them at the forefront of the UK grungegaze scene, with Kerrang! noting a rockier take on the genre and NME picking up on their distinctly British spin on an otherwise Americanised sound. Their 2025 debut album Vital Signs, released through SharpTone Records, marks a real shift in direction. The record pulls in breakbeats and nu metal grooves, landing in nu gaze territory while keeping the grungegaze DNA intact. Critics have tagged their sound with everything from shoegaze to post hardcore to alternative metal, and they've already been cited as an influence by Split Chain.
