About
Pablo Heras Casado covers an unusually wide range for a conductor, moving comfortably between baroque period instruments and full scale modern orchestral repertoire, and that versatility is a big part of what makes him stand out. Born in Granada, Spain, he cofounded the period instrument ensemble La Compañía Teatro del Príncipe in 2007, with a focus on neglected Spanish baroque operas, and has led world premieres of works by composers including Toshio Hosokawa. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2013 conducting Rigoletto, and served as principal conductor of the Orchestra of St. Luke's from 2011 to 2017, later becoming its first Conductor Laureate. His recordings for harmonia mundi, Decca Classics and Deutsche Grammophon have picked up multiple Diapason d'Or prizes and a Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Musical America named him Conductor of the Year in 2014, and his 1,000th career concert took place at the Berliner Philharmonie in 2019.
