Hendrik Weber, recording as Pantha du Prince, has spent two decades shaping a corner of electronic music that sits somewhere between minimal techno, dark ambient and what he calls "sonic house". Born in Bad Wildungen, Germany, he launched the Pantha du Prince project in 2002 and found his stride with the 2007 album This Bliss, which The New York Times called "a pensive, slender and tough album" and his high water mark. His 2010 release Black Noise, made during a period of exploration in the Swiss Alps, pulled in field recordings, atonal noise and stray percussion, and featured Noah Lennox of Animal Collective and Tyler Pope of LCD Soundsystem. The project has never been strictly a studio affair. In 2013, he and the Norwegian five piece The Bell Laboratory released Elements of Light, a symphony built around electronics, percussion and a three tonne carillon of 50 bronze bells. His work also extends into visual art and installation, weaving together sound, architecture and objects into what he describes as a transcendental space.
