About
Passion Pit built their whole sound around Michael Angelakos, the Cambridge, Massachusetts frontman and keyboardist who is the band's primary recording force. What started as a Valentine's Day gift, a batch of home recordings he made at Emerson College, became the Chunk of Change EP, with "Sleepyhead" leading the way. That track sampled Irish harpist Mary O'Hara and racked up appearances in TV shows, video game trailers and ad campaigns, turning Passion Pit into a genuine indie breakout. Their 2009 debut full length Manners arrived with a children's chorus supplying backing vocals on three tracks, and singles like "The Reeling" and "Little Secrets" made noise on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The follow up, Gossamer in 2012, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, their first top 10 album. Two more records followed: Kindred in 2015 and the self released Tremendous Sea of Love in 2017, showing a band that has always operated on its own terms.
