Patra (JM)

About

Patra cracked the US charts in the mid 90s with a run of dancehall and reggae tracks that crossed over into R&B and dance. Her debut album Queen of the Pack hit number one on the Reggae albums chart, and its second single Worker Man climbed to number one on the US Dance chart. She started out as a female deejay called Lady Patra in the late 1980s, and her breakthrough came as the featured voice on Shabba Ranks' Family Affair. Follow ups included Romantic Call with Yo Yo, a remake of Grace Jones' Pull Up to the Bumper, and Scent of Attraction with Aaron Hall, which gave her a fourth R&B Top 40 hit. After stepping away for a few years she returned with The Great Escape in 2003, and later came back again with Patra: The Continuation in 2014. In 2024 she popped up on screen in the crime drama Get Millie Black, playing a Kingston dance club owner called Hit Girl.
