About
Peelander Z describe themselves as a 'Japanese Action Comic Punk band hailing from the Z area of Planet Peelander', and that pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Formed in 1998 by Japanese expats who first connected in Buffalo, New York, the band built their reputation on relentlessly chaotic live shows featuring human bowling, pro wrestling chair antics, color coordinated costumes they insist is their actual skin, and a giant squid guitar. The music is fast, loud punk rock, and the whole thing is played completely straight. Over the years the lineup has shifted quite a bit, with departing members officially announced as 'returning to the Peelander planet'. A 2016 documentary, Mad Tiger, captured the turbulence around those exits. They kept releasing records through it all, including Go PZ Go in 2018 and P Party Z Party in 2023, the latter marking their 25th anniversary as a three piece. Their back catalog runs deep, with over a dozen albums stacked up since their self titled debut in 2000.
