About

Periphery are one of the acts most responsible for putting djent on the map as a recognized movement within progressive metal. Formed in Washington, D.C. in 2005 around guitarist Misha Mansoor, who built a following through online forums and a Soundclick account long before the band had a label deal, they blend progressive metal with the heavy, palm muted rhythms that define the djent sound. Everything they release is self produced by the band members themselves, which gives their records a consistently distinctive edge. The lineup has settled around vocalist Spencer Sotelo, guitarists Mansoor, Mark Holcomb and Jake Bowen, and drummer Matt Halpern. Over eight studio albums, including the double album Juggernaut: Alpha and Omega and the more recent Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre and A Pale White Dot, they have pushed their sound in more melodic and ambient directions while keeping the technical heaviness intact. A Grammy nomination along the way only confirmed what fans already knew. They have shared stages with Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, and Animals as Leaders, touring relentlessly since 2008 and building one of the most devoted followings in modern progressive metal.
