About
Also known as: Philharmonische Orchester Südwestfalen, Siegerland-Orchester, Südwestfälische Philharmonie
Philharmonie Südwestfalen is a full symphony orchestra from the Hilchenbach and Siegen area in Germany, and it has a nice habit of mixing the film score shelf with the classical canon. Their programmes pair music written for the screen with the concert hall pieces that go with the same mood, so a cosy winter set might sit Christmas film themes next to classical works that are tied to the season. They can also go the other way. Thriller and horror soundtracks get the full orchestra treatment, alongside the spookiest passages from the classical repertoire. They have played under conductors such as Ingmar Beck and Sander Teepen. The music is the whole point: when they play film material, the films themselves are not shown, so it is all down to the orchestra.
