About
Philippe Jordan is a Swiss conductor and pianist from Zurich whose career has taken him through some of the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls in the world. He served as music director of the Opéra National de Paris from the 2009 to 2010 season through 2021, and simultaneously held the post of chief conductor of the Wiener Symphoniker from 2014 to 2021. From the 2020 to 2021 season he also took on the role of music director at the Vienna State Opera, a position he is set to conclude at the end of the 2024 to 2025 season. Jordan has a particular connection to Wagner, having assisted Jeffrey Tate on Der Ring des Nibelungen early in his career and later conducting full Ring cycles in Zurich and Paris. He is no stranger to the piano either, performing regularly in recital and chamber music settings, including at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. His commercial recordings include Beethoven symphonies with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Looking ahead, he has been appointed music director of the Orchestre National de France, taking effect from the 2027 to 2028 season.
