Orkest Phion is a Dutch orchestra with a broad repertoire that stretches from the Baroque era through to contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt, Max Richter and Ludovico Einaudi. The ensemble has a particular appetite for programmes that put classical and modern in conversation with each other, exploring what scholars call neostyles: works that borrow from older musical traditions and reshape them into something new. A typical concert might pair a Beethoven symphony with a Romantic concerto, or build an entire evening around Scandinavian repertoire, from Grieg's Peer Gynt and Nielsen to Sibelius. The orchestra works with guest soloists and conductors, including conductor Wilson Ng and violinist Rebecca Roozeman, winner of both the Oskar Back Prize and the Audience Prize at the Nederlands Vioolconcours. Whether the programme leans toward the grand classical canon or toward neoromantic crossover territory, Phion consistently puts together concerts that move between periods and styles with real curiosity.
