About
Pitty's debut album Admirável Chip Novo landed in 2003 and promptly became the best selling rock album in Brazil that year, shifting over 820,000 copies. The title was a nod to Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, and singles like Máscara and Equalize hit number one, setting the tone for one of the most decorated careers in Brazilian rock. Over seven years she racked up roughly 51 awards at MTV Video Music Brazil alone, including Artist of the Year twice and three Dream Band wins as lead vocalist. Her 2009 album Chiaroscuro even spawned a mobile game based on her music, a first for any Brazilian artist. The New York Times compared her live show to Guns N Roses and Joan Jett, and Billboard placed her at number 14 on its Social 50 chart in 2011, the highest debut ever for a Brazilian act. Her 2019 album Matriz kept the momentum going, earning a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Album.
