About
Planet Asia, the Fresno raised rapper born Jason Green, has spent decades building one of underground hip hop's most relentless discographies. He first made serious noise as one half of the Cali Agents alongside Rasco, and their 2000 album How the West Was One became a West Coast underground classic. The Source twice handed him Independent Album of the Year honours, first for a 2001 project and then again for his 2004 debut The Grand Opening on Avatar Records, which also featured collaborations with Kurupt and Ghostface Killah. He founded his own imprint, Gold Chain Music, and kept the output flowing at a pace few could match. The Medicine, his 2006 album fully produced by Evidence of Dilated Peoples with assists from The Alchemist, stands as one of his most focused efforts. His collaborative work is equally impressive, from a 2008 project with DJ Muggs to a 2011 EP with Madlib. More recently, his partnership with producer Apollo Brown yielded Anchovies in 2017 and Sardines in 2023, showing he has no intention of slowing down.
