About
Few Australian dance acts can claim Elton John as a superfan, but PNAU pulled it off. The Sydney trio of Nick Littlemore, Peter Mayes, and (until 2024) Sam Littlemore caught John's ear with their acclaimed 2007 self titled album, which he declared the greatest record he'd heard in a decade. That connection led to a string of collaborations, including Good Morning to the Night, a 2012 project where PNAU reworked John's classic catalogue into something entirely their own. Their debut album Sambanova, recorded in a bedroom studio back in 1999, actually won an ARIA Award for Best Dance Release, a remarkable start for a record initially pulled from shelves over uncleared samples. Nick Littlemore also runs Empire of the Sun alongside Luke Steele, a project that grew directly out of a PNAU recording session and went on to sell over a million records worldwide. PNAU itself has kept busy across the years, working with guests ranging from Khalid on The Hard Way to The Warning on Tu Corazón, showing the group's taste for unexpected collaborators alongside their core sound of propulsive, layered electronic dance music.
