About
Also known as: MC Pocahontas
Pocah built her name on the dancefloors of funk carioca before funk was mainstream, dropping her debut track "Mulher do Poder" in 2012 to over 11 million YouTube views at a time when the funk ostentação scene was just finding its footing. She later rebranded from MC Pocahontas to Pocah after signing with Warner Music Group in 2019, sidestepping potential Disney copyright trouble, and immediately proved the move worthwhile with "Não Sou Obrigada", an ode to female empowerment that racked up 35 million Spotify streams. Rapper Future even sampled her voice on his album Hndrxx track "Fresh Air", which later turned up in a Kylie Jenner makeup tutorial. Her collaborations have a knack for going big: a team up with Naiara Azevedo and Dani Russo went Double Platinum, while her track with MC Mirella hit Diamond certification from Pro Música Brasil. A stint on Big Brother Brasil in 2021 kept her in the public eye, and in 2024 she released her debut full length album Cria de Caxias, an autobiographical concept album split into three acts.
