About
Porto Cabello is a string quartet built around violin, two guitars, and double bass, and their sound moves fluidly between gypsy swing and traditional Romani music. The combination gives their sets a real range: one moment you're somewhere in a smoky Parisian jazz cellar circa 1938, the next you feel like you've wandered into something rawer and more Eastern European. The music is direct and emotional, the kind that lands somewhere in the chest rather than just the ears. Their name comes from a Django Reinhardt composition, a fitting tribute given that Reinhardt, the legendary Belgian Sinti guitarist and composer, was the one who fused Sinti music with jazz back in the 1930s and 1940s. Porto Cabello clearly draws from that same well.
