About
PREP is four London guys with wildly different day jobs in music: a singer songwriter, a classically trained composer, a house DJ and a hip hop producer. Put them in a room and you get something that sounds like 1980s pop, smooth R&B and jazz melted together, the kind of retrofuturistic, yacht rock sort of thing people call marina pop. Think lush synths, groovy basslines and songs about love, longing and looking back. The band's name comes from keyboardist Llywelyn ap Myrddin, who used to ask everyone before a gig, "Have you done your prep?" Their 2016 debut EP Futures had "Cheapest Flight", which spread online fast, and a self titled album followed in 2020. Their second record, The Programme, landed in 2024. It was mostly recorded in quarantine with producer Renaud Letang and features Eddie Chacon and Phum Viphurit. They have played festivals as far afield as Java Jazz in Indonesia and Wanderland in the Philippines.
