Pretty Sick wear their influences proudly: grunge, riot grrrl, post punk, and a general sense that things should feel a little dangerous. The New York City trio, fronted by vocalist and bassist Sabrina Fuentes alongside drummer Eva Kaufman and guitarist Benjamin Arauz, built a loyal fanbase on the Lower East Side long before the wider music press caught on. Signing to Dirty Hit in 2020, the label home of The 1975 and beabadoobee, was a turning point that brought their sound to a much bigger audience. Their debut album Makes Me Sick Makes Me Smile arrived in September 2022, and the production style leans gritty and dark in a way that suits them perfectly. Their music videos double down on that energy, featuring bloody car crashes, operating rooms, and what the band itself describes as erotic aggression. The music has grown noticeably heavier and rawer over time, moving well beyond the indie rock tag they started with.
