Propagandhi formed in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba back in 1986, and over the decades they've grown from a scrappy punk act into one of the most politically sharp bands in the hardcore world. Fat Mike of NOFX was so impressed by a show they played together in 1992 that he signed them to Fat Wreck Chords on the spot, leading to their debut How to Clean Everything in 1993. Their second album, Less Talk More Rock, stirred up real controversy for its pro feminist and gay positive stance in a scene that wasn't always welcoming of those views, and the song titles alone made clear this was a band with a lot on their mind. Since then, Propagandhi have kept pushing musically and politically through albums like Today's Empires Tomorrow's Ashes, Potemkin City Limits, and Supporting Caste. They also co founded the record label G7 Welcoming Committee Records, structured around participatory economics principles. Now a four piece based in Winnipeg, the band pairs dense layered guitar work with relentlessly engaged lyrics that tackle everything from corporate power to veganism.
