About
Qolorido is a four piece that takes familiar songs and finds something new inside them. Rather than straightforward covers, they reshape the material so it breathes at a different pace or heads somewhere unexpected, all while keeping the essence of the original intact. The repertoire pulls from artists like Sting, Kate Bush, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen. The group builds its sound from voice, violin, accordion and guitar or mandoline, and that particular combination keeps things interesting. The music slips between folk, jazz and chanson without fully settling into any of them, sometimes landing somewhere that resists a neat label altogether. There is a restlessness to it, subtle friction in the harmonies, a pause held just a beat too long. Refined one moment, full of energy the next.
