About
Formed in 1994 in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Parque Chacabuco, Ráfaga quickly carved out a space in Argentine cumbia with their distinctive look, full medieval outfits and jewelry setting them apart from the crowd. They built a grassroots following in local clubs before breaking internationally, picking up the Midem Latino Revelation award in 1996 and 1997 and earning gold albums in Sweden, Switzerland and Romania, plus a Double Platinum Disc in Spain. Their song "La luna y tú" even ended up in a Romanian television commercial. Over the years Ráfaga toured across four continents, hitting North America, Europe and as far as China and Australia. Four Gardel awards for Best Tropical Band between 2000 and 2003 cemented their status back home. The band has kept releasing music well into recent years, with the 2016 album "Una Cerveza" and a 2024 collaboration with Américo called "Amándonos" showing they are far from slowing down.
