About
Raffaele Casarano is a saxophonist, composer and producer from Salento, in the south of Italy, and a key name in the Italian New Jazz Generation. His playing takes the sound of the Afro American diaspora and opens it up to modern influences and to what he sees as far off worlds, which keeps his music rooted at home but looking outward. That outward look shows in who he has worked with: Richard Bona, Sting, Noa, Nguyen Le, Rhani Krija, Nicolas Vicaro and Paolo Fresu, who welcomed him on his Tuk Music label. He has toured in Africa, Brazil, South Korea, Russia and across Europe, including projects with Dhafer Youssef and Manu Katche. He has released seven albums as a bandleader and appeared on more than 100 recordings as a co leader or collaborator.
