About
Also known as: Rain City, Slaves
Rain City Drive grew out of Sacramento post hardcore outfit Slaves, carrying over the same lineup but shedding a name the band felt carried too much baggage. When they announced the rebrand in late 2021, they pointed to Manchester, England, sometimes called the rainy city, as the symbolic touchstone for the new identity. Their debut under the Rain City Drive name, a self titled record on Thriller Records, dropped in July 2022, and they followed it up with Things are Different Now in 2024, showing no sign of slowing down. Out front is Matt McAndrew, known to a lot of people as a runner up on The Voice, but here very much in post hardcore territory rather than prime time television. The band blends experimental rock textures with the heavier edge they carried over from the Slaves era, and their catalog now includes the transitional album To Better Days, which was originally released under the old name before being folded into the Rain City Drive catalog.
