About
Ralph van Raat is a Dutch pianist with a strong international reputation as an interpreter of contemporary classical music, particularly the minimalist tradition. He has recorded the complete piano music of John Adams to wide critical praise, and his programming often centres on the pioneers of minimal music: Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Adams himself. For a concert devoted to all three composers, Van Raat brings together a violinist and a soprano to show how their music still feels urgent today. A highlight of the programme is the Dutch premiere of Piano Counterpoint, an arrangement of Steve Reich's Six Pianos originally scored for six keyboards in 1973. The arrangement, made by Dutch pianist Vincent Corver for piano solo and tape, carries Reich's own approval.
