Dutch trance duo Rank 1, made up of Piet Bervoets and Benno de Goeij, broke through in a big way when their track Airwave hit number one across multiple charts in 2000. The name itself started as a joke, the pair thought it would be funny to top the charts with a act literally called Rank 1, and then it actually happened. They followed that up with a string of solid hits including Such is Life, Awakening, and Breathing, while also lending their remix skills to acts like System F, Baby D, and Push. Their remix of Cygnus X's Superstring became the anthem for the massive ID&T event Sensation in 2000, and they produced the Sensation theme more than once after that. More recently they teamed up with Armin van Buuren on The Greater Light To Rule The Night, featured on the A State of Trance Forever album.
