Rebecca Ferguson turned a runner up finish on The X Factor's seventh series into a genuine recording career, which is rarer than it sounds. Her debut album Heaven landed at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart in 2011 and went platinum within its first two weeks, driven by the soulful lead single "Nothing's Real but Love", which she co wrote with Eg White. She went on to rack up three more top three albums: Freedom, Lady Sings the Blues, and Superwoman. Her sound pulls from soul, pop and blues, and she cites Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse and Christina Aguilera as key influences. That last name carried extra weight when Ferguson performed a duet of "Beautiful" with Aguilera in the X Factor final itself.
