Regional Justice Center takes its name from a jail in Kent, Washington, and that unflinching connection to incarceration runs straight through their music. The Seattle powerviolence outfit built their debut full length, World of Inconvenience, around frontman Ian Shelton's experience with a family member behind bars, releasing it in 2018 on Closed Casket Activities. Crime and Punishment followed in 2021 on the same label, cementing their reputation for brutally focused hardcore. In 2024 the band put out Freedom Sweet Freedom, their third and self described final album. The record brought a striking personal dimension: Ian's family member, performing under the name Vatican Voss, co wrote and performed on the album, closing a loop that started with World of Inconvenience years earlier. It is a fitting, full circle send off for a band whose entire catalog has been rooted in something genuinely lived in.
