About
Belgian tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen has carved out a distinctive niche in historically informed performance, particularly in French Baroque repertoire. Based in Leuven, he became a regular soloist with Les Arts Florissants and has performed alongside ensembles including Collegium Vocale Gent, Hespèrion XXI, and Le Poème Harmonique, appearing at venues from the Chapelle royale de Versailles to Wigmore Hall and the Edinburgh Festival. In 2016 he founded A Nocte Temporis, an ensemble devoted to French music in historically informed performance. The group has built an impressive discography of six albums, tracing a thread through the great French haute contre roles: from Dumesny, the voice of Lully, through Jéliote and Rameau, to Legros and Gluck. Van Mechelen also took the role of Jason in a 2024 production of Médée at the Opéra National de Paris.
