About
René Aubry has built one of the more quietly distinctive careers in French contemporary music, weaving classical harmonies together with modern instrumentation across more than four decades of work. Based in France, he has collaborated with some of the most respected names in contemporary dance, composing for choreographers Carolyn Carlson and Pina Bausch, which tells you a lot about the atmospheric, movement friendly quality of his sound. Beyond the concert hall and dance stage, Aubry has scored a string of beloved animated films, including The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, Stick Man, and several other adaptations of Julia Donaldson books. His discography of original albums is just as extensive, running from his 1983 self titled debut through releases like Refuges, Chaos, and Petits sauts délicats avec grand écart. A prolific composer who clearly has no intention of slowing down, he released Give Me a Chance for Another Dance in 2025.
