Renée van Wegberg is one of the most versatile performers in Dutch musical theatre, probably best known for stepping into the shoes of cabaret legend Liesbeth List in the biographical musical of the same name, a run that began just as List herself announced her retirement from public life due to dementia. That kind of emotionally charged, high profile work is pretty typical of where van Wegberg operates: she played the green witch Elphaba in Wicked as understudy to Willemijn Verkaik, took on the role of Alison Bechdel in Fun Home, and voiced Sina in the Dutch version of Moana. Beyond big productions, she has built a strong solo concert career since 2015, touring programmes like Renée van Wegberg Sings List, Shaffy and Piaf and Renée Doet De Dames, an ode to Dutch female singers. In 2023 she co wrote and performed the show #PERFECT alongside Bettina Holwerda, about modern women juggling careers, marriage and family, and the response was good enough to bring it back for a revival.
