Revocation built their reputation on a bruising mix of technical death metal and thrash metal, with lead guitarist and vocalist Dave Davidson at the center of everything. Out of Boston, they went from self releasing their debut Empire of the Obscene to signing with Relapse Records after financing their own tour, and Allmusic called their second record Existence Is Futile one of the best pure metal albums of 2009. Spin had them on a list of ten artists to watch in 2010, which in hindsight looks pretty sharp. By the time they moved to Metal Blade Records in 2014 the catalog was stacking up fast, with albums like Deathless, Great Is Our Sin, The Outer Ones and Netherheaven each pushing the band's dense, dissonant riff work further into progressive death metal territory. Current drummer Ash Pearson, formerly of 3 Inches of Blood, locked in after the 2015 lineup change. Their ninth studio album appears to be on the way, and a track called Dead of Winter surfaced in early 2026.
