About
Richard Devine makes the kind of electronic music that sounds like it was assembled inside a machine dreaming. Based in Atlanta, he's known for a densely layered, heavily processed style that pulls from glitch, IDM, musique concrète, and electroacoustic traditions, bending sound into shapes that feel physically impossible. His work caught the attention of Autechre, and a remix he did of Aphex Twin's 'Come to Daddy' led to an album deal with the legendary Warp Records, released jointly with Miami's Schematic Records, his long time home label. Beyond his own records, including albums like Asect:Dsect and the more recent Sort/Lave, Devine is a serious force in sound design. He's created patches for Native Instruments, Propellerhead Reason, and Moog Music's Animoog app, scored commercials for Nike and Touchstone Pictures, and collaborated with electronic musician BT on the film Look. His modular synthesis work, documented through detailed patch videos, shows just how deep his technical rabbit hole goes.
