About
Richie Spice, born Richell Bonner in Rock Hall, St. Andrew, Jamaica, has been one of reggae's more quietly consistent voices since the mid 1990s. His sound moves across roots reggae, lovers rock and dancehall, and his catalogue includes tracks that have crossed over into some unexpected places, such as "Youth Dem Cold" landing on the Grand Theft Auto IV radio station Massive B Soundsystem 96.9, and a Coki remix of his song "Marijuana" pulling him into the UK dubstep scene. Songs like "Earth a Run Red", "Brown Skin" and "Grooving My Girl" remain fan favourites. He comes from a seriously musical family, with three brothers, Pliers, Spanner Banner and Snatcha Lion, all working in reggae, and together they run the Bonner Cornerstone label. His fifth album Book of Job, released on VP Records in 2011, was a deliberate statement about staying committed to uplifting music no matter what. The 2012 acoustic set featured legends like Robbie Shakespeare and Bongo Herman, and his most recent full length Together We Stand came out on VP Records in 2020.
