About
Rim Akandoh Jnr. is a drummer and composer from Cape Coast, Ghana, who founded the band Rim Akandoh Jnr. & Amamere in 2022. The project channels the guitar highlife sound of the 1970s through an Afro funky vintage lens, carrying on a tradition that runs deep in his family: the band's debut album, Man Shall Be Free, reworks material from the catalogue of his father, the Mighty Rim Akandoh and his Prince Sparrows Band, alongside pieces drawn from the Osoode medley tradition of West Ghana and original compositions of their own. The music is rooted in highlife's pulsing rhythms but also leans into the lyrical wit that defines the genre at its best. After quickly winning over audiences in Ghana, the band took their irresistible live show to Europe, getting dancefloors moving wherever they played.
