About
Robert Finley spent decades playing on the margins, doing street gigs and carpentry in Louisiana, before the Music Maker Relief Foundation spotted him busking outside a show in Arkansas in 2015 and helped him launch a full comeback. His debut album Age Don't Mean a Thing landed in 2016 on Big Legal Mess Records, drawing on the sounds of Booker T. and the MGs, James Brown, and B.B. King, with Finley writing nearly every track himself, including an autobiographical title song that really set the tone. Things accelerated fast after that. Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys came on board as producer, first for a soundtrack tied to the graphic novel Murder Ballads, then for the album Goin' Platinum! in 2017. The pair kept working together through Sharecropper's Son in 2021 and Black Bayou in 2023, the latter featuring Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney. His most recent album, Hallelujah! Don't Let The Devil Fool Ya, came out in 2025, with his daughter Christy Johnson singing alongside him.
